Kuma is built with privacy at its core. Your focus sessions, tasks, goals, statistics, and reminders are stored entirely on your device. We never see, access, or store your personal data.
1. Overview
Kuma ("the App") is a focus and productivity app that helps you build healthy focus habits with a Pomodoro-style timer, ambient white noise, daily goals, achievement badges, focus statistics, task management, and local reminders — all wrapped in a cozy bear companion experience. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App collects, how it's used, and your rights.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect
Kuma does not collect, transmit, or store:
- Your focus session records, timers, or completion history
- Your tasks, goals, achievement progress, or reminder settings
- Your name, email address, or any personal identifiers
- Location data or GPS coordinates
- Your contacts, photos, or microphone input
- Device identifiers for advertising purposes
3. On-Device Storage
Kuma stores all of your activity locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This includes:
- Focus session records (duration, completion status, timestamps)
- Tasks and their tags, completion state, and ordering
- Daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly goals
- Unlocked achievement badges and streak progress
- Reminder schedules and white-noise preferences
- App preferences and settings
This data is stored in the app's local database on your device and never leaves it. Kuma does not require an internet connection to perform its core functions (focusing, tracking, managing tasks and goals, and viewing statistics). You can delete this data at any time by removing records within the app or by deleting the App from your device.
4. Subscription Data
Kuma offers optional paid subscriptions ("Kuma Pro") managed through Apple's App Store. To process subscriptions, we use RevenueCat, a third-party subscription management platform.
RevenueCat may receive the following anonymous data from Apple:
- An anonymous app user ID (not linked to your identity)
- Purchase and subscription status information
- Transaction history related to in-app purchases
This data is used solely to manage your subscription status and unlock Pro features, and cannot be used to identify you personally. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.
5. Notifications
Kuma can send you local reminders to help you keep your focus habit (for example, a daily "time to focus" nudge). These reminders are scheduled entirely on your device using Apple's UserNotifications framework. They are not sent from any server, do not involve push notifications, and do not transmit any data off your device.
The App requests notification permission only so it can display these local reminders. You can enable, disable, or reconfigure reminders at any time within the App, or revoke the permission entirely in your device's Settings.
6. Analytics
Kuma uses Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregate usage data. This helps us understand how features are used and improve the app experience.
Firebase Analytics collects:
- Anonymous app usage events (e.g., which screens are viewed, when a focus session is completed, which features are used)
- An app instance identifier (a random ID not linked to your identity, never the IDFA)
- Device type, operating system version, preferred language
- General geographic region derived from masked IP addresses (not precise location)
- Subscription state (whether you are a free or Pro user, never your account or transaction details)
Firebase Analytics does not collect:
- Your name, email, or any personal identifiers
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA)
- The content of your tasks, goals, notes, or focus history
- Your precise location
Analytics data is anonymous and cannot be used to identify you personally. It is never linked to your focus history, tasks, goals, or any personal information. All of your focus activity remains 100% on-device.

7. Other Third-Party Services
Beyond RevenueCat (Section 4) and Firebase Analytics (Section 6), we do not use any:
- Advertising SDKs or ad networks
- Crash reporting services that collect personal data
- Social media SDKs or login providers
- Cross-app tracking tools
8. Data Retention
Since we do not collect personal data, there is no personal data to retain. All focus records, tasks, goals, badges, reminders, and preferences are stored entirely on your device and can be deleted at any time from within the App or by removing the App from your device.
9. Children's Privacy
Kuma does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. The App does not require account creation or any personal information to use.
10. Your Rights
Under GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable privacy regulations, you have rights regarding your personal data. Since Kuma does not collect personal data, these rights are inherently satisfied. If you have any concerns, please contact us.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
