Redactly is built with privacy at its core. All image processing happens entirely on your device. We never see, access, or store your photos.
1. Overview
Redactly ("the App") is a privacy tool that helps you redact sensitive information from photos, screenshots, and PDF documents. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App collects, how it's used, and your rights.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect
Redactly does not collect, transmit, or store:
- Your photos, screenshots, PDF documents, or any image data
- Text detected in your images or documents (phone numbers, emails, names, addresses, URLs, monetary amounts, ID numbers, etc.)
- Your name, email address, or any personal identifiers
- Location data or GPS coordinates
- Device identifiers for advertising purposes
3. On-Device Processing
All image and document analysis — including text recognition (OCR), face detection, and sensitive data classification — is performed entirely on your device using Apple's native Vision and Natural Language frameworks. The App detects and can redact the following categories of sensitive data: phone numbers, email addresses, names, physical addresses, faces, URLs, monetary amounts, and ID numbers. No image or document data is ever uploaded to any server.
The App does not require an internet connection to perform its core functions (importing, analyzing, redacting, and exporting images and PDF documents).
4. Subscription Data
Redactly offers optional paid subscriptions managed through Apple's App Store. To process subscriptions, we use RevenueCat, a third-party subscription management platform.
RevenueCat may receive the following anonymous data from Apple:
- An anonymous app user ID (not linked to your identity)
- Purchase and subscription status information
- Transaction history related to in-app purchases
This data is used solely to manage your subscription status and cannot be used to identify you personally. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.
5. Photo Library, Camera & File Access
The App requests access to your Photo Library and Camera for importing images to redact and saving redacted images. The App also uses Apple's document picker to let you import PDF files from your device or cloud storage providers. These permissions are required for the App to function but are never used to collect or transmit your data. When importing multiple photos, the App uses the system photo picker with Limited Photo Library access — it can only see the specific photos you select.
6. EXIF Metadata
Redactly provides an optional feature to strip EXIF metadata (including location, camera information, and timestamps) from exported images. This feature is designed to further protect your privacy when sharing photos.
7. Analytics
Redactly uses Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregate usage data. This helps us understand how features are used and improve the app experience.
Firebase Analytics collects:
- Anonymous app usage events (e.g., which screens are viewed, which features are used)
- App instance identifier (a random ID not linked to your identity)
- Device type and operating system version
- General geographic region derived from masked IP addresses (not precise location)
Firebase Analytics does not collect:
- Your name, email, or any personal identifiers
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA)
- Any content from your photos or detected text
Analytics data is anonymous and cannot be used to identify you personally. It is never linked to your photos, detected text, or any personal information.
For details on Firebase's data practices, see Privacy and Security in Firebase.
8. Other Third-Party Services
Beyond RevenueCat (Section 4) and Firebase Analytics (Section 7), we do not use any:
- Advertising SDKs or ad networks
- Crash reporting services that collect personal data
- Social media SDKs or login providers
- Cross-app tracking tools
9. Data Retention
Since we do not collect personal data, there is no personal data to retain. Edit history (a Pro feature) is stored entirely on your device in the app's local Documents directory. History records include JPEG copies of original and redacted images, thumbnails, and a JSON index of detection metadata. This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted externally. You can delete individual records or all history at any time from the app's settings.
10. Children's Privacy
Redactly does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. The App does not require account creation or any personal information to use.
11. Your Rights
Under GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable privacy regulations, you have rights regarding your personal data. Since Redactly does not collect personal data, these rights are inherently satisfied. If you have any concerns, please contact us.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
