Tonely is built with privacy at its core. All photo editing and processing happens entirely on your device. We never see, access, or store your photos.
1. Overview
Tonely ("the App") is a film-inspired photo editor that helps you apply analog film looks, fine-tune tonal adjustments, and save reusable editing recipes. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App collects, how it's used, and your rights.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect
Tonely does not collect, transmit, or store:
- Your photos or any image data
- Your editing recipes, presets, or adjustment parameters
- Your name, email address, or any personal identifiers
- Location data or GPS coordinates
- Device identifiers for advertising purposes
3. On-Device Processing
All image processing — including filter rendering, look application, grain and halation effects, tonal adjustments, and recipe management — is performed entirely on your device using Apple's Core Image, Metal, and native frameworks. No image data is ever uploaded to any server.
The App does not require an internet connection to perform its core functions (importing, editing, applying recipes, and exporting photos).
4. Local Data Storage
Tonely stores the following data locally on your device:
- Editing projects (source images, preview thumbnails, adjustment parameters)
- Saved recipes (look selections, adjustment values, metadata)
- App preferences (haptics, card style, accent color)
This data is stored in the app's local Documents directory and never leaves your device. You can delete individual projects or clear all saved looks from the app's Settings page at any time.
5. Subscription Data
Tonely offers optional paid subscriptions managed through Apple's App Store. To process subscriptions, we use RevenueCat, a third-party subscription management platform.
RevenueCat may receive the following anonymous data from Apple:
- An anonymous app user ID (not linked to your identity)
- Purchase and subscription status information
- Transaction history related to in-app purchases
This data is used solely to manage your subscription status and cannot be used to identify you personally. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.
6. Photo Library & Camera Access
The App requests access to your Photo Library for importing photos to edit and saving edited photos. Camera access is requested to capture new photos directly within the app. These permissions are required for the App to function but are never used to collect or transmit your data.
7. EXIF Metadata
Tonely strips EXIF metadata (including location, camera information, and timestamps) from exported images by default. This protects your privacy when sharing edited photos.
8. Analytics
Tonely uses Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregate usage data. This helps us understand how features are used and improve the app experience.
Firebase Analytics collects:
- Anonymous app usage events (e.g., which looks are applied, which screens are viewed, when an export completes)
- An app instance identifier (a random ID not linked to your identity, never the IDFA)
- Device type, operating system version, preferred language
- General geographic region derived from masked IP addresses (not precise location)
- Subscription state (whether you are a free or Pro user, never your account or transaction details)
Firebase Analytics does not collect:
- Your name, email, or any personal identifiers
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA)
- Any content from your photos, recipes, or edits
- Your precise location
Analytics data is anonymous and cannot be used to identify you personally. It is never linked to your photos, recipes, or any personal information. All photo editing remains 100% on-device.

9. Other Third-Party Services
Beyond RevenueCat (Section 5) and Firebase Analytics (Section 8), we do not use any:
- Advertising SDKs or ad networks
- Crash reporting services that collect personal data
- Social media SDKs or login providers
- Cross-app tracking tools
10. Data Retention
Since we do not collect personal data, there is no personal data to retain. All editing projects, recipes, and preferences are stored entirely on your device and can be deleted at any time from the app's Settings.
11. Children's Privacy
Tonely does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. The App does not require account creation or any personal information to use.
12. Your Rights
Under GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable privacy regulations, you have rights regarding your personal data. Since Tonely does not collect personal data, these rights are inherently satisfied. If you have any concerns, please contact us.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
